Algeria hosts the first edition of the African School Games
In a historic first, and with the support of the Presidency of the Republic, illustrating the country’s commitment to young talents, Algeria is preparing to host the inaugural edition of the African School Games. The event will take place from July 26 to August 5, 2025, with the participation of many countries from across the continent.
To this end, the competitions will be held in four Algerian cities: Annaba, Skikda, Constantine and Sétif, giving the event a rich and diverse geographical and cultural dimension.
This first edition is organized under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, under the aegis of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), in partnership with the International School Sport Federation (ISF), and supervised by the Algerian Ministry of Sports.
It is part of a continental dynamic aimed at supporting young African athletes in preparation for major sporting events such as:
- The African Youth Games scheduled for next December in Luanda (Angola),
- The 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar (Senegal),
- The 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles (United States).
It should be noted that this event is the result of effective collaboration between the relevant sectors and stems from an ambitious vision to strengthen the role of school sport as a key pillar of elite sport. It will help create educational and sporting spaces dedicated to nurturing talents, while promoting Olympic values and the spirit of competition.
Hosting these Games in Algeria is a recognition of its organizational capabilities and the quality of its sports and educational infrastructures. It also reflects Algeria’s determination to invest in the youth of the continent and reaffirm its leadership role in supporting unifying African initiatives through school sport.
