Sétif at the Heart of African School Sport

26 October 2025

In a historic step reflecting the growing dynamism of school sports in Algeria, Sétif Province is preparing to host the first edition of the African School Games, scheduled from 26 July to 5 August 2025, alongside the provinces of Annaba, Constantine, and Skikda.
As a city of the High Plateaus, a tourist and economic province, and a city that breathes sport, Sétif is ready to host the continental sporting festival—considered one of the main hubs of this edition—with competitions in five core sports: basketball, swimming, badminton, taekwondo, and kung-fu/wushu.

Intensive preparations and qualitative efforts
Under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Sports, the national organizing committee for the African School Games, and the Wali (governor) of Sétif Province, the province is implementing an exceptional work program including:
Rehabilitation of sports facilities to meet African standards
Deployment of specialized teams in organization, health, security, and media
Support for infrastructure by improving transport, accommodation, and services
This dynamism embodies the Algerian state’s commitment to establishing a culture of school sport as a lever for human development and strengthening African relations in a safe and integrated sporting environment.
Hosting this continental event in Sétif is not merely a transient sporting activity but the culmination of a comprehensive national vision aimed at enhancing Algeria’s continental and international influence through school sport, and investing in building bridges of communication among African youth.
Thus, Sétif transforms into a sports, educational, and cultural platform, reflecting Algeria’s modern face and embodying the aspirations of a new generation towards excellence, peace, and African integration.
