A historic milestone in Africa’s school sports cooperation

The President of the Organizing Committee of the African School Games, Amar Brahmia, stated that the first edition of these Games, held in Algeria from July 26 to August 5 across the cities of Annaba, Constantine, Setif, and Skikda, represented a significant milestone in consolidating sports cooperation among African nations. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday in Annaba, Brahmia emphasized that this school sports event — the first of its kind in Africa and held under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune — constitutes “a historic milestone in developing African sports cooperation at the school level.” The COJAS president expressed his satisfaction with the successful organization of this edition entirely managed by Algerian professionals who demonstrated high-level capabilities in terms of organization. Amar Brahmia presented a detailed overview of the organizational and logistical framework adopted for this first edition, during which 3,299 accreditations were issued, covering athletes, guests, officials, and members of the various organizing committees. He stressed that the process was conducted “in accordance with a protocol that ensured safety and smooth movement for all participants.” Mr. Brahmia concluded by extending his heartfelt gratitude to all members of the organizing team, the field crews, technicians, and volunteers, affirming that “this success is the fruit of collective work, meticulous planning, and a sincere national will to showcase Algeria’s immense capacities in terms of organizing and hosting major events. It is worth noting that this event attended by 47 African countries, falls within the broader framework of fostering continental cooperation, identifying sports talents from an early age, and reinforcing the values of brotherhood and fair competition among Africa’s future champions.
