After days of intense competition, the curtain fell on the inaugural African School Games, hosted by four Algerian cities: Annaba, Constantine, Sétif, and Skikda. Organized in record time, the Games proved to be a resounding success on every level. From a sporting perspective, Algeria dominated the competition, topping the overall medal standings despite strong rivalry from Egypt and, to a lesser extent, Tunisia. From an organizational standpoint, the event was exemplary. All competitions were held under optimal conditions in each host city, creating the perfect environment for Africa’s young athletes to shine and unleash their potential. Accommodation met and often exceeded expectations. Both athletes and officials enjoyed comfortable rooms and a variety of delicious, healthy meals meeting international standards. Beyond the sports arenas, participants had the opportunity to immerse themselves in Africa’s rich and diverse cultural heritage through numerous festive activities. Guided tours allowed Algeria’s guests to discover the country’s history, landmarks, and hospitality. The legacy of these Games will continue to benefit the host cities, which now boast new infrastructure and equipment set up for the event. African delegations left Algeria with unforgettable memories of a short yet impactful stay—many vowing to work harder in hopes of matching Algeria’s achievements in the second edition, to be hosted by Nigeria.
